Last weekend I had the chance to interview John Colborne, a fascinating man who is both a professional lutenist and lutier. I met John through visiting and volunteering at the Tudor House, and he was kind enough to agree to an interview with me.
We discuss – among other things – the origins and evolutions of the lute and Renaissance music, the difficulties of playing and making lutes in the past and the present and even the best contemporary instrument to use when forced into a tavern brawl.
